AI-Crafted Cocktails : CraftGPT

San Francisco bar Raven Bar debuted CraftGPT as the first AI-created cocktail on a bar menu in the city and it offers up a unique take on mezcal cocktails.

Raven Bar fed ChatGPT a specific flavor profile to work within, as well as certain ingredients to use and others to avoid. As a result, ChatGPT analyzed drinks that use agave liquor and came up with a recipe using guajillo chili pepper-infused mezcal, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, blood orange and Firewater bitters.

AI has the potential to inject tons of flavors into cocktail recipes, yet the technology ultimately relies on talented mixologists’ expertise to fine-tune recipes for human taste buds. When it came to refining this AI-crafted cocktail, Raven Bar’s team tweaked the recipe to achieve just the right balance of sweet, sour and smoky elements by adding lemon, honey and mint.
