Where and when was published this text? Who is the author, name some biographical information about him, to which artistic movement he belonged? To whom he directs his speech? What is his motivation to give this speech? What are the main ideas?
Context:
Explain the historical and economical context of the time when it was written. Explain the relation between the historical moment and the ideas of the author.
Key ideas of the speech:
Detect and analyse each section about his key ideas. Which importance have the Decorative Arts for him? Which ideas and relation he explains about labour? Which opinion he has about industrial production and mass consumption? Which impact had the industrial revolution to the environment?
Relation to contemporary times:
Which ideas and reflections of William Morris could be considered still valid in our times? Which ideas can be considered anachronistic and obsolete? Do you think that nowadays there are people following the ideas of William Morris? Do you think that the legacy of William Morris is something useful for the designers of today? If you think so can you give some examples of contemporary design which follow the ideas of Morris?
