Enhanced Own Migration Tool for VMs and Data Replication – Upwork
To improve an existing migration tool that currently replicates ECS buckets to another ECS or CIFs and extend its capabilities to enable the migration of virtual machines (VMs) to different hosts by replicating byte-level changes from the source to the destination. Additionally, the tool should be designed to support various source and destination storage migration connections in the future, including SCALE, Azure, and other platforms.
Functional Requirements:
1. VM Discovery:
• The tool must have the ability to discover and identify virtual machines residing on the source host.
2. Initial Seed Replication:
• Implement a process to replicate the initial seed data of the identified VMs to a new target server or host.
3. Byte-Level Change Replication:
• Enable the tool to continuously monitor and replicate byte-level changes in order to migrate VMs efficiently and with minimal downtime.
4. Replication Status Monitoring:
• Provide a user-friendly interface or reporting mechanism to display the status of ongoing replication tasks.
• Include information about the bytes pending to be replicated for each VM.
5. Error Handling and Resolution:
• Implement error-handling mechanisms to address cases where byte changes fail to replicate.
• Provide options for resolving these issues, such as resynchronization or alternative methods.
6. Extensible Storage Connections:
• Design the tool architecture to accommodate future source and destination storage migration connections.
• Ensure that it can support SCALE, Azure, and other platforms as options for VM replication and migration.
The tool will be thoroughly tested in your own lab environment before being delivered.
The full coding documentation and source code for the tool will be provided upon completion of the project.
