Sound file management project – Upwork
The job is managing a large number of sound recordings that I made from 1975 to the present date. From '75 to 2003 or 4, the files are on cassette. From '04 to '23 it's all digital, almost exclusively mp3 files. Possibly up to 5 or 10,000 digital files. Some music but mostly spoken word.
In the case of the cassettes (which I'm not planning to do until later) I will also have to convert them digitally and clean them up. If you did a good job with this part, I would love to stick with the same person for the 2nd part, which could also involve cleaning up the files, etc.
The digital files, which I have on various hard drives, need to simply be uploaded to some server, which you would set up and then I would upload them.
So here's the project:

1. Set up the best file architecture to receive these files. First, they will need to be put into a database. So your first job will be to propose what would be a good candidate for a database that holds sound files but also keeps track of metadata.
2. Then I will upload the files to the cloud server. I have google drive and bluehost. You will provide direction on how to upload them so the files are manageable. That's the second thing you can help me with.
3. The files need to be indexed, initially so as to create a front end that represents the sound files key attributes:
a. filename
b. creation date
c. file size
d. length
e. format
4. Then they need to be run through transcription software. I am aware of otter.ai, but what else is out there? This is what you are supposed to be an expert in knowing. Take me through how I could do this.
5. A transcript to the file needs to be attached to the same database record with the sound file. Once we get the transcript, that has to be searchable in the database and tied to the original database record of the recording. How best to do that?
6. Then I need to go through and add metadata in the form of key words. So, for example, some of the files would ge the keyword "advice." Some are "lyrics" to a song. Some are "rants" about a given topic. By adding keywords I can start sorting these files by topic.
7. Finally, there now exist various AI abilities to do metadata as well, reading the corpus and summarizing the theme, and putting words and tags on like that. So we would want some neural net to read each transcript and summarize the theme.
The project fee is, depending on the quality of work, expected to pay through step 3. Remaining steps to be negotiated.
